Youngsters Vital For The Dragons Future

Head coach Scott McKenzie is showing  faith in his youngsters and bringing back two players that  made a huge impact last season for the Dragons, Both are U17s conference medal winners and are a great prospect for the future and he has wasted no time in signing the pair up.

Scott McKenzie had this to say about his new signings

“Louis Morgan and Jonah Armstrong are two young prospects that are vital players for The Dragons Ice Hockey Club. It is with great pleasure that I welcome them back to the NIHL1 team for the 17/18 season. Jonah played a lot more games than anticipated last season but when in between the pipes he held his own and certainly earned his spot. He is a natural talent but works incredibly hard to improve on his ability. We are lucky to have such a hot prospect within our programme. Louis is a no nonsense D man. He plays the physical side of the game extremely well and with a little work I believe he can be a top end defenceman in the NIHL1 league. Not many forwards enjoy playing against him with his no-nonsense style. He really took his opportunity when provided with it last season and at still only 16, there is a lot of development to come from him. Both of these players are young, hungry and willing to learn, that is a combination that I love to work with.

Louis Morgan just back from the conference weekend in which he saw his U17s Midland conference take the title had this to say about his future with the Dragons “Being back with the Dragons is a pleasure for me, I have been in a lot of discussion with the coach and I feel that the Den is the best place to be!. Last season was my first season in the senior system and it was an amazing year for me and the Dragons and that’s why I’m glad to be back in the Dragons shirt this season!

Jonah Armstrong another U17s medal winner with the conference side was delighted to be back between the pipes at Deeside

I’m really happy to be back in a Dragons shirt. Last year I was given a great opportunity by Scott to play a lot of games in my first year of ENL hockey and I’m very grateful for that. With this coming season I’m looking forward to a high level of competition entering the Den with the addition of teams dropping down from the EPL, I think the standard will help improve Dragons hockey and I’m looking forward to establishing myself in the league to help the Dragons get the wins.

Jonah and Louis will also practice with the Under 18s and Nihl2 team as part of our development pathway. Both players fully understand their role and will be given a great opportunity to develop. If you would like to own and loan Jonah or Louis’ jerseys. Please contact Vicky at Als Skate Shop within Deeside Leisure Centre or email;
