Young Dragons In Cup Success

DDJIHC U15’S FEND OFF THE COMPETITION TO BRING HOME THE ANNUAL SHEFFIELD GROUP B CUP

Following a successful league campaign which saw the u15’s finish a close second in the league, they headed to the annual Sheffield tournament to take on teams from around the  uk representing the club and flying the flag for Wales.
The team consisting of 1 goalie and 13 skaters,were put to the test through the preliminary rounds winning 4 of the 6 games before an anxious wait to see if they had qualified for the final.
In the second to last round robin game, Nottingham played Swindon.if Swindon beat Nottingham it was early doors for Deeside,luck was on the junior dragons side with Nottingham beating swindon by a single goal to win the group and dragons finishing second set up an exciting final after loosing to Nottingham the previous day and with a loss and a draw in the league,Deeside knew they would need to play as a team and give 100%  to overturn a very strong Nottingham side who won the EIHA Northern B league.
Early in to the game Nottingham where attacking in force but struggled to score on the outstanding Jake Lowndes in the Deeside net.
A composed Deeside side started to put the pressure on Nottingham and after an illegal move on Deesides Liam Canty a penalty shot was given,Canty didn’t hesitate on passing it over to the leagues 2nd place points scorer Charlie Spridgeon,Spridgeon who was on top form scored for the dragons making it 1-0.
A further goal from Liam Canty following a string of tape to tape passes,gave the dragons a 2-0 lead and hopes of lifting the cup were rising.
A late surge from Nottingham saw them score and took the score to 2-1 in favour of the Dragons and the final few minutes were played intensely with passion and pride.
The final whistle blew. it was over Deeside had won the cup
