William Cherry Wins Elite League Photo Competition
The Stena Line Belfast Giants can claim another two victories from the 2018/19 season with William Cherry winning the Elite League’s photo competition.
Congratulations to William on winning the photo of the year as well as the portfolio of the year in the annual contest.
All league photographers were invited to take part and the entries were decided by an equal combination of fan votes on facebook, jury voting and the votes of the league’s photographers. The winners were announced at the Playoff Finals weekend in Nottingham.
The jury consisted of Szymon Szemberg (MD, European Hockey Clubs Alliance), Vladimir Koca (Social Media photographer, Czech Olympic Committee & Sparta Prague) and Andreas Robasner (Puckfans.at, Slovan Bratislava and two time IIHF World Championships photographer).
William Cherry, on winning the photo and portfolio of the year:
“I am absolutely delighted to win Best Photo and Best Overall Portfolio in this year’s Elite Ice Hockey League photo competition.”
“Hockey is a sport I love to photograph, with the non-stop action and contact, but working with such a great bunch of guys like the Belfast Giants team and staff every week makes my job that much easier. It’s been such a great season for the Giants, and for me this is the icing on the cake.”
“Every team that comes to the Arena to face the Giants puts in 100% and I know that every talented photographer in the league does the same. The photos that are produced week in and week out are superb – it’s clear we all love the sport.”
“On behalf of all of the photographers I’d like to thank the EIHL for their ongoing support and for showcasing our work. I’d also like to thank the fans and judges that took the time to vote for their favourite photographs.”
I'm delighted to have won both the @officialEIHL 'Best Photo' competition and the 'Best Overall Portfolio' with my coverage of @BelfastGiants this year. A great season which isn't over yet! Good luck in the Playoff final Giants #WeAreGiants pic.twitter.com/UWURI4NTiD
