Herb Brooks once said; “Great moments are born from great opportunities†and for Wild who worked hard this season they have earned their opportunity as they are within touching distance of that all important promotion they so desperately want.
Having only formed back in the summer of 2013 Widnes have achieved great things in a short time including two consecutive years of advancing to the playoff games.   And now the ultimate prize – promotion to top division of the NiHL.
But before promotion can be achieved, Wild will have to maintain their cool and skate with their hearts in a two game series which will decide their fate as they face the team from Whitley Bay who be playing to stay in North Division one after a disappoint league campaign.
The first leg will see Wild host Whitley Warriors as they make the travel North West for a 17:30 face off at the Silver Blades, and then the following night for the second leg of the two-legged clash, Wild will be on the road to the North East coast to the Whitley Bay Ice Rink for a 17:00 face off.
Wild finished the season victorious in five games but after a disappointing result against the all conquering Solihull Barons they lost out in the playoffs. A difficult defeat to swallow but great preparation into this weekends crucial games.
After a season of highs and lows for the Whitley Warriors, that culminated by a close defeat in the Tyneside derby against Billingham Stars in their the last game of the season the Warriors will want to go back to winning way against Wild with the determination to stay up.
Victory in both legs would see the Wild sensationally promoted into the Moralee Conference after only two seasons in the Laidler Conference.
The weekend promises to be an entertaining and excitement mixed with nervous and pressure, no matter the result the team have had a great season and therefore is it vital that many fans as possible to cheer the team on at both games.
