Wild Women At WPL Play Offs This Weekend

The Widnes Wild women’s team have the opportunity to emulate their male counterparts this weekend and bring home some silverware as they are taking part in the Women’s Premier League playoffs in Sheffield.

The men’s team won the Laidler Conference play off title – the first trophy in their history – at iceSheffield back in April after beating Altrincham Aces in the semi-final and then Sheffield Senators in the final and the women’s team now have – potentially – two similarly tough games ahead of them.

The Wild women have the somewhat formidable task of facing league champions Streatham Storm in the first semi-final – which faces off at 11.30am on Saturday – and then, possibly, going on to meet the winner of the second semi-final between Chelmsford and Milton Keynes in the final on Sunday.

The Wild women actually lost to Streatham at the same stage of competition last season and were beaten home and away by them in the league this season as well, albeit with a team depleted by injuries and player availability. They qualified for the play off weekend in dramatic fashion winning their last three league games – all away from home – capping it off with a 2-3 win away at Kingston Diamonds last weekend.

The WPL play offs form of the EIHA Women’s Trophy Weekend which features play offs between teams from 4 different competitions, with all 4 finals being played on the Sunday.
