Wild To Battle Blaze Away On Saturday And At Home On Sunday
Wild’s Mikey Gilbert scores in the home game against Coventry Blaze back in September.
The RTL-sponsored Widnes Wild will be looking to give their Laidler Division title hopes a boost with back-to-back games against Coventry Blaze this weekend. The Wild travel to Coventry to play an away game at the Skydome on Saturday – 18.45 face off – and are then at home to the Blaze on Sunday at Silver Blades Widnes in a game that faces off at 5.30pm.
The two teams have already met twice this season, with Widnes winning 5-2 at home back in September and then 1-6 away at the end of October.
The Blaze were a Division 1 team until 2013 when they elected to drop down to the lower division and, since then, have tended to struggle at the bottom end of the league table. They are currently in 7th place in the league with 20 points from 26 games. Most of those points have come from games against the other teams at the bottom of the table but they have also picked up important wins over Sutton Sting and Sheffield Senators over the course of the season so this weekend’s game are far from clear-cut.
Coventry’s top points scorers thus far this season are Jordan Liddell – who has 26 points from 25 league games – and Slovakian player Lubomir Plandor who has the same number of points from 20 games.
The Wild are in a chasing pack of 4 teams – all with a similar playing record – who are snapping at the heels of current league leaders Sutton Sting and two wins this weekend are vital if they want to maintain that challenge.
The RTL-sponsored Widnes Wild are away to Coventry Blaze on Saturday and then at home to the same opposition on Sunday at Silver Blades Widnes. The game starts at 5.30pm and doors open at 4.45.
Following on from the Wild v Coventry game on Sunday, the Halton Huskies recreational team have a home game against the Whitley Bay Sharks. Face off is at 8.30pm and admission is free.
