Wild Looking To Continue Home Form As Lions Visit The Hive

Widnes Wild Logo Hi resThe Nottingham Lions are up next for the Widnes Wild as they travel to Silver Blades Widnes on Sunday evening. Currently sat in 3rd place in the Laidler Conference, the Lions have already beaten the Wild twice out of three attempts so far this season and Coach Mckenzie’s side will be looking to tie up the series between the two sides as they face each other for the final time in the league this weekend.

”Each game we have played against the Lions has been tough, they are extremely difficult to break down and although they aren’t prolific up front, they are very well coached and organised. As a team we have a plan going into Sunday’s game, if we stick to it for 60 minutes then we will be fine” said Mckenzie.

The last two fixtures the Wild have played have seen them take a 6-1 lead before letting their foot off the gas and opening up defensively. Mckenzie will be looking for a much stronger defensive display from his players;

Mckenzie continued;

”We cannot let teams back in the game. Against Bradford & Blackburn we have given them hope instead of really putting the game to bed. Maybe we have just relaxed a little but as a team we have sat down and discussed that it is not acceptable to do that. Playing against better teams we will be punished by playing so loosely. A good defensive performance will be needed on Sunday if we want to get 2 points”.

Some would argue that if the Wild were to win on Sunday it would all but cement 2nd place ahead of the visiting Nottingham Lions. The Lions on the other hand will certainly have other plans as they look to close the gap between themselves and the Wild. After a bumper crowd of 450 people last weekend, a buzz is growing around the town. The Wild will be hoping for another great turn out on Sunday evening in what is sure to be a great night of fast ice hockey action.

Sunday’s game will face off at 17:30 with doors opening at 16:45. Tickets are available to purchase on the door. For further information email; scott.mckenzie@widneswild.co.uk.
