Wild Away At Blackburn On Sunday – Wild Women At Home to Kingston

Wild’s Mike Mawer (#85) and Matty Barlow (#11) attack the Blackburn goal during the 1-6 away win over the Hawks back in November.

The RTL-sponsored Widnes Wild face the first of three consecutive away trips this weekend when they travel to play the Blackburn Hawks this Sunday 25th February – 5.45pm face off.

The Wild have beaten the Hawks development team three times already this season, scoring 30 goals in total and conceding just 4 and, with the Blackburn side sitting rock-bottom of the Laidler Division table and Widnes a high flying second, the smart money would probably be on an away win.

However, ice hockey is always full of surprises – as the home and away defeats to Bradford Bulldogs showed earlier in the season, so the Wild will not be looking for any laurels to rest upon.

The situation at the top of the Laidler table is so tight that every point will need to count in the final rush for play-off places at the end of the season.

Widnes are currently in a group of three teams, along with Hull and Telford, who are all on the same number of points – 42, with league leaders Sutton Sting a catch-able 6 points ahead and Altrincham Aces just 1 point behind. As there are only 4 places available at the play-offs in April, one of those 5 teams will ultimately lose out.

Following the Blackburn game, the Wild are away to the Deeside Dragons on Saturday 3rd March and then have a huge top 4 clash away at Telford Tigers on the Sunday 4th before facing Hull Jets at home at Planet Ice Widnes on Sunday 11th March.

For any fans who are not travelling to Blackburn on Sunday, the Widnes Wild women’s team are at home to Kingston Diamonds in the Women’s Premier League at Planet Ice Widnes– face off 5.30pm.

The Wild women narrowly lost 3-1 to the Diamonds in the away fixture in Hull last Sunday and will be looking to make amends in what should an entertaining match.

Following the women’s game, the Halton Huskies recreational team take on the Sheffield Ice Tigers in a challenge game – face off 8.30pm.
