Wild At Home to Hawks N2 This Sunday – Note: 6.30pm Face Off

Match action from the Wild’s 16-2 win over the Hawks N2 team back in October

The RTL-sponsored Widnes Wild will be keen to get back on the ice after last weekend’s cancelled game as they entertain the Blackburn Hawks N2 team this Sunday at Silver Blades Widnes.

Last Sunday’s home game against Coventry Blaze had to be cancelled due to technical problems at the rink and with, this Saturday’s away game at Hull having been rescheduled to accommodate a cup game and another away game – against the Deeside Dragons N2 team – also needing to be rescheduled, there was the risk of a serious backlog of fixtures towards the end of the season.

To help alleviate this, the home game against the Hawks development team – which was originally scheduled for the 18th February – has now been brought forward to what would otherwise have been another blank weekend for the Wild.

Following other results in the Laidler Division last weekend, the Wild have been knocked down to fourth place in the table, with Telford, Hull and Sutton all picking up points in the title race above them.

Leaders Telford have a 4-point advantage over Widnes but have played four games more and, with the Wild still having to play them twice (both games away), those two meetings could have quite a bearing on the outcome of the season.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s game, the Hawks N2 team have struggled to make any impact on the league this season. From 26 starts, they have only won 1 game – a penalty shot win over the Deeside Dragons development team back in September – and have leaked an incredible 286 goals, scoring just 49.

The Wild’s first game against the Hawks saw them win comfortably 16-2 in early October at Silver Blades Widnes but the return game away in Blackburn in November was a much closer affair with the scoreline coming out at 1-6 to Widnes.

The Laidler Division is wide open this season with most teams being able to beat any other on their day so this should be an entertaining encounter between two north-west rivals.

The RTL sponsored Widnes Wild play the Blackburn Hawks N2 team this Sunday 4th February at Silver Blades Widnes. Please note that game on Sunday faces off at the later time of 6.30pm, with doors opening at 5.45.

For last Sunday’s cancelled game against Coventry Blaze, club sponsors and match sponsors for the night Hemsec Panel Technologies had kindly arranged for fans to win the opportunity to take part in a ceremonial puck drop at the start of the game and to present the MVP awards at the end.

It has been announced that prizes from last week will now be valid for this Sunday’s game against the Hawks instead.
