Where Does Filip Chlapik Go From Here?

Filip Chlapik is a former NHL player who has, for now, found his calling for the HC Sparta Praha. Next season he will be playing for HC Ambri-Piotta and continue to raise his stock.

Chlapik, the 6-foot-2 and 194 pound forward, was a highly regarded prospect coming into the NHL Entry Draft in 2015. He had worked his tail off to get noticed by the highest of scouts, hoping to be a high pick and play in the show immediately. Chlapik was picked by the Ottawa Senators in the second round and 46th overall and was to make the most of his opportunity.

After seasons of being in and out of the Senator’s lineup and spending most of his early career with the Belleville Senators of the AHL, he began to wonder what was happening. He was not getting as much playing time as he would like despite contributing offensively.

During the 20-21 season, he had only appeared in three games combined between Ottawa and Belleville. He was on lean to HC Sparta Praha and also played 11 games with the Liiga leagues Pelicans, where he posted 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points.

In the 21-22 season, he spent with HC Sparta Praha and had one of his best overall hockey seasons. In 53 games played he scored 31 goals and 39 assists for 70 points. In the playoffs, he also contributed 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 16 games.

The versatile forward is playing well and having fun playing hockey again. The former Charlottetown Islanders forward is still producing like he should, even years after his QMJHL days where he played 173 games, producing 79 goals and 141 assists for 220 points.

A forward with incredible speed Chlapik is still young enough to get back to the NHL and develop into a very good player.  If the right opportunity comes along he can turn his fortunes around and be a solid piece, a second or third liner, to a potential playoff team. With the Ottawa Senators, his NHL total are as follows: 57 games played, with 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points.

Chlapik also has the option to stay where he is and carve an impressive resume and continue producing at a good level. Whatever he decides to do Chlapik will be successful because of his drive, passion, and determination for the game of hockey.
