 Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm are thrilled to welcome Ashley Smith and Declan Ryan back for the 2018/19 season!

The British netminder duo, will be returning for their second season with the club and will help build on last season, hoping to provide further success with Storm.

Last season, 19 year-old, Ash Smith achieved 100% save percentage when icing for Storm, including some stunning saves when he replaced Mike Clemente in net against Coventry Blaze. During this time he was also on a two-way contract with NIHL team Hull Pirates – where he in 9 games, he averaged a save percentage of 88%.

Previous teams for the 6’00” goalie also include Bradford Bulldogs U16/U18s and Sheffield Steeldogs U18s.  He was also on loan to EIHL team, Coventry Blaze in 2016/17 and has made appearances for Deeside Dragons.

This season will also see Smith on a two-way contract with NIHL Moralee Conference team, Nottingham Lions.

The 2017/18 season saw 25 year-old Declan Ryan on a two-way contract with Manchester based NIHL team, Altrincham Aces. During his last two seasons with the Aces,Ryan achieved a 93% save percentage across 35 games.

The 5’11” netminders previous teams include Telford Tigers and Manchester Phoenix. Familiar to high-standard hockey, Ryan also previously achieved a place on both the U18s and U20s GB teams.

Declan Ryan is also prepared for the upcoming season will once again be on a two-way contract with Altrincham Aces, commenting;

“I’m happy to be back with the Storm and Aces for another year. We took some huge strides last season as an organisation and I know that expectations will be even higher this season. I look forward to meeting my new team mates and contributing to another successful season.”

 Ash Smith added:

“I’m really excited to be back with Storm. Last year was a great experience and I learnt SO much. The team that Ryan is signing is looking strong and hopefully we can win some more trophies this year!”

 Head coach of Nottingham Lions, Matt Bradbury, is pleased with Ash Smith’s two-way deal, stating;

“We are grateful for the support given by the Storm to enable this arrangement to take place.”

“We know what Ashley is capable of, and working with the Lions will definitely offer the ice time and challenges that he requires. I am sure he will gain the experience and support from new netminder, Matt Ginn and Coach Finnerty – all culminating in taking his game to the next level.”

Head Coach Ryan Finnertyis thrilled to have re-signed the two reliable backup netminders for the upcoming season, commenting;

“We are happy to retain the services of Ash and Dec. We felt the duo did a brilliant job for us last season. With Ash being so young, it gives an opportunity to continue developing his game, alongside him seeing some valuable ice time with the Nottingham Lions”

Smith will play as #35 and Ryan will wear #31 again this season. Keep an eye on the clubs’ social media and be prepared for the release of both netminders’ jerseys, which will be available for own and loan shortly.
