Weekend Preview: 4th & 5th May

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are holding their annual awards presentation evening this Saturday 4th May at the Moorfield Sports & Social Club in Widnes.

The player of the season awards will be presented and supporters will be able to receive their “own and loan” shirts. There will be a hot and cold buffet and a DJ. Doors open at 7pm and there will be a bar and disco until midnight.

Tickets cost £15 per person (£12 for season ticket holders) and £6 for children and are still available from the Planet Ice Widnes reception. Please note that all tickets must be purchased by 5pm on Friday 3rd May in order to be able to confirm final numbers for the catering.

While the Wild’s season may be over, there is still lots of ice hockey being played by the various Widnes-based teams, although all 3 games this weekend are away.

The Wild Academy U9 team are away in Altrincham this Sunday 5th May for a 5-team “Cross Ice” tournament featuring Telford, Deeside, Blackburn and Manchester and they then round off their debut season by hosting a 4-team tournament at Planet Ice Widnes the week after on Sunday 12th May – 4.20pm start time.

The Wild Academy Under 13 team are also in action on Sunday 5th May when they travel to Blackburn for their penultimate game of the season. Face off is at 4.45pm.

The Riverside Raiders travel to North Wales on Sunday for a tantalising “Deeside v Widnes” clash in the Summer Classic Cup. Face off is 6.15pm

The Raiders first home game of the season will be on Sunday 26th May when they take on the Trafford Thunder at Planet Ice Widnes in a charity game in aid of the Christie Hospital Charitable Trust. Face off will be at 4.30pm.

The Earle Road Elks team have announced a charity game in aid of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association to be held at Planet Ice Widnes on Sunday 30th June. The opposition will be the Manchester Swarm rec team and face off is at 6.30pm.

  • Sunday 19th May: Wild women’s WPL game home v Sheffield Shadows – 5.30pm face off (last home game of season)
  • Saturday 25th May: Academy U13s away at Nottingham – 5.40pm face off (last game of season)
  • Sunday 26th May: Wild women’s WPL game away at Whitley Bay Squaws – 12.15 face off (last game of season)
  • Sunday 26th May: Riverside Raiders v Trafford Thunder charity game in aid of Christie Hospital Charitable Fund – 4.30pm face off Weekend
  • 1st & 2nd June: EIHA Women’s Trophy Weekend: Women’s Elite League, Women’s Premier League and D1 N&S play offs – plus North v South U16 championship game. 10 games over 2 days – admission free.
  • Sunday 9th June: Riverside Raiders at home to Flintshire Phantoms in Summer Cup – 4.30pm face off.
  • Sunday 23rd June: Riverside Raiders at home to Shropshire Huskies in Summer Cup – 4.30pm face off.
  • Sunday 30th June: Earle Road Elks v Manchester Swarm charity game in aid of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association – 6.30pm face off
  • Sunday 7th July: Riverside Raiders at home to Wyre Seagulls in Summer Cup – 4.30pm face off.
  • Sunday 16th July: Riverside Raiders at home to Blackburn Buccaneers in Summer Cup – 4.30pm face off.
