Watkins calls for ‘rocking’ Telford Ice Rink
“Let’s rock the place” – that’s the rallying cry from Tigers coach Tom Watkins, ahead of tonight’s mouth-watering clash with Milton Keynes Lightning at Telford Ice Rink.
Telford have a four-point advantage over Milton Keynes at the top of the English Premier League, following last night’s gripping 2-1 victory in Northamptonshire.
The previous meeting of the two sides in Telford saw over 800 fans pack into the Southwater venue, with the Tigers winning 3-2 on that occasion.
And Watkins hopes his side’s latest success will be the catalyst for another near-capacity crowd tonight.
He said: “You know what? Let’s fill the building and let’s rock the place on Sunday. These boys need to be supported and have their fans behind them.
“They are getting there with some great results, and it is wonderful to see.
“I asked the guys to play with a play-off mentality, as they’re back to back games this weekend. I thought we could have been a bit more physical on Saturday, but the points are important.
“The guys battled, they played of the love of the game and it was good to see.”
Teford were cheered on by a large contingent of travelling fans in Milton Keynes, as they eventually recovered from an early Lightning goal.
Watkins added: “Our travelling support on Saturday was fantastic. They made a lot of noise, banging their drums and signing.
“For them to be still cheering after we left the ice meant a lot to the guys. It was much appreciated.
“The fact that the fans travel in the numbers they do, and the way they support the team is excellent.”
