UK Round Up 3rd November

Elite League

It was a big night for the Cardiff Devils as they travelled to the Braehead Clan. The Devils were missing the suspended Max Bibraer and Devin Didiomete and had been in the news for all the wrong reasons this week. However new signing Phoenix Coyotes’ Paul Bisonnette meeting the side in Glasgow boosted the Devils and the Canadian took 7 minutes to score his first two points of his EIHL career. The Welsh side racing into a 4 -1 first period lead.

The Clan though showed once again they cannot be written off as Galbraith and Goldie scored early in the third to tie the game up at 5. Phil Hill’s goal restored the Devils lead with 7 minutes to go and last minute penalty set up a nervy finish for the Devils. However EIHL player of the month, Mac Faulkner, managed to net the empty netter with seconds remaining to give away team the win and lift them to fourth spot in the table.

It was a night of epic games in the EIHL and the Skydome arena was no exception. A quiet first 30 minutes saw no goals but once Noah Clarke opened the scoring at the half way mark the game erupted. 4 more goals within 4 minutes at the end of the second period put the Giants in a commanding position. However two quick goals at the start of the third saw the Blaze pull level and that’s the way it stayed into overtime. Brad Leeb completing his hattrick to give the side the home team the win and leaves the Giants 2 – 1 – 1 since returning from Europe.

In Dundee it was a case of cometh the hour cometh Sami Ryhanan. The Finn has been a massive part of the Stars early season improvement this year and another big game performance saw him score a hat trick as they held the Sheffield Steelers in regulation. With the top topping Nottingham Panthers not in action the Steelers needed the win to keep up the pressure and a Tyler Michel goal in overtime ensure the 2 points went back to South Yorkshire.

The final game of the night was another Forth Derby as the Capitals travelled to Kirkcaldy. The Capitals had been under fire this week for there poor performance in Nottingham in midweek and this performance was not much better with the Edinburgh side only managing 13 shots. On the plus side though they did limited the Flyers to 2 goals on 34 shots. The Flyers taking the win by a goal.
