Uk Round Up 21st October

Elite League

In Sheffield the Steelers hosted the Stingrays and it was almost a case of deja vue for the Steelers as goals from Dayles and Ozolins levelled the scores at 2. But Stephenson’s and Sarich’s third period goals were enough to avoid a repeat of the Steelers playoff defeat to their Yorkshire neighbours.

The Cardiff Devils had a Max Birbraer third period double to thank for the Cardiff Devils beating the Nottingham Panthers whilst a Ross Venus first period goal was the difference in the Coventry Blaze getting the win against the Edinburgh Capitals.

With the Belfast Giants away in European action there was only one more game in the EIHL. The Fife Flyers travelled north to Dundee to face the Stars. A second minute Bagron goal for the home side separated the teams right through to the finish as neither side could capitalise on their powerplay chances.

English Premier League

It was a big night for the Telford Tigers as they opened their £4 million revamped rink. But it was no fairy tale return as the fellow strugglers the Peterborough Phantoms demolished the homeside.

At the opposite end of the table the Manchester Phoenix took their chance to return to the top of the table thanks to a penalties win over the Milton Keynes Lightning. The Phoenix’s return was in part thanks to the Guildford Flames who showed their recent blip was over by recording a big win over the table topping Basingstoke Bison.

A team still struck in their own rut are the Sheffield Steeldogs who slumped to another defeat at the Bracknell Bees. The Bees continuing to surprising many by recording another 4 point weekend. In the nights final game the Slough Jets kept the pressure up on the top of the table thanks to a solid home win over the Swindon Wildcats.
