UK Round Up 14th October

Elite League

It was a mixed night in the EIHL for the on form sides. The Belfast Giants were seeking their 6th straight victory as they went to the Motorpoint Arena. Despite Craig Peacock’s early goal though the Steelers came away with the victory. That included a home debut goal for NHLer Tom Sistito who so far has proved that he can score as well.

The Coventry Blaze too got back to winning ways with a victory against the Nottingham Panthers. They were made to work for it though and it took a brace from the Leeb brothers to seal the victory in a game were neither side could capitalise on the powerplay opportunities.

Up in Scotland there was an anticipated Forth derby at Murrayfield. The Flyers crossed the Forth as hot favourites but found themselves blitzed by a first period Jarolin brace. That was followed up a goal apiece from Zemburgs and Steel to give the Capitals a 4 – 0 lead going into the third. A fight back by the Flyers in third pulled them back to within 2 but the bragging rights and a vital victory stay in Murrayfield with the Edinburgh Capitals. Jarolin completing his hat trick with the empty netter.

The final game of the night was in Dundee as the Stars hosted the Stingrays. It was a tight affair with neither side giving an inch. Inevitably the game went to penalties and Wirll hit the winning shot.

In the EPL a late Flames equaliser salvaged overtime for the defending champions in Manchester. But a point was all the Flames could manage as Jocquim Flaten hit the winner with a minute remaining in overtime. That means the Flames have no lost 4 on the bounce and only taken 2 points in that time. The Phoenix meanwhile takes over the top of the league thanks in part to the Bison being out of action.

In Peterborough the Phantoms got a much-needed win to keep in contact with the pack whilst the Bees and the Wildcats had to wait for penalties for a winner. Smital eventually hitting the winning penalty in sudden death.
