Tripp rooting for Germany in Olympic semi-final

Braehead Clan head coach John Tripp has said he will be supporting Germany in Friday’s Winter Olympics Men’s Ice Hockey Semi-Final.

The German national team go head-to-head with Canada at the Gangneung Hockey Centre, with the German’s looking to cause one of the biggest upsets in Winter Olympic history.

Tripp, who’s mother and grandparents are German, played for the ‘Nationalmannschaft’ between 2006 and 2014, including the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

“Despite being from Kingston, Canada, I’m from a German household, my mum and grandparents are German – so I will be supporting Germany during the semi-final” said Tripp.

“It was an honour to play for Nationalmannschaft during my time in Germany and I really hope they can make history and get all the way to the final.

“I’ll certainly be watching the game and hoping we can make what would be a fantastic final against the Russian’s.

“Canada are 15-0 against Germany in the Winter Olympics, so I’m really looking for the underdogs to cause an upset.”
