The Widnes Wild women’s team face a tough start to 2017 as they have two games against Streatham Storm on successive weekends in the Women’s Premier League.
They travel to south London this Sunday 8th January for an away fixture that faces off at 6.30pm before hosting the return game 7 days later at Silver Blades Widnes on Sunday 15th.
The Storm are currently 4th in the Women’s Premier League table with a 3-1-1 record from their 5 league games to date. Their only defeat of the season so far has come at the hands of league leaders Chelmsford Cobras who beat them 3-4 on their own ice in their last game before the Christmas break.
Widnes are 5th in the table with 2 wins and a draw from their 6 games to date and they can expect two difficult games as the team is depleted by international call ups and injuries.
Looking ahead to the second half of the WPL season, Coach Owen Tennant said:
“The girls have had a long rest to get ready for the New Year and, hopefully, will come back not too out of shape from all the Christmas festivities. Unfortunately Abi Hayes has sustained an injury and is likely to be out for the foreseeable future, however we must look forward and change things around until she has made, a hopefully, quick and full recovery.
“I have added a few surprises into the planning for training sessions so I’m looking forward to seeing what the girls make of it. Hopefully we can start the New Year with a win and continue that way.”
Wild women’s player Sophie Sinclair-Reeks will miss both games against Streatham as she will be away playing for the Team GB Women’s Under 18 team at the World Championships in Poland.
The Widnes Wild women’s team will be back in action on home ice on Sunday 15th January when they face Streatham Storm at Silver Blades Widnes. Face off is 5.30pm and admission is free
