Toss a teddy for Tigers next week

Telford Tigers will hold a charity ‘teddy bear toss’ in aid of the Princess Royal Hospital and Hope House at their home game against Hull Pirates next Saturday night.

Fans will be invited to throw cuddly toys onto the ice at Telford Ice Rink after the first goal of the English Premier League match.

The toys will then be collected and donated to the childrens’ ward at Telford and Hope House in time for Christmas.

Sam Middleton, match night co-ordinator at Telford Tigers, said: “The game against Hull is our last before Christmas, and we wanted to do something special for some very good causes.

“The idea is that the teddy bears are wrapped in clear plastic bags and thrown onto the ice after the first goal. They will then be collected and donated.

“We all know someone who has had a sick child at this time of the year, so it is important that we do whatever we can to bring some festive cheer.

“Supporters are also being invited to wear their best Christmas jumpers for the game and really get into the spirit of things!”

The ‘teddy bear toss’ is popular at games in North America, where thousands of cuddly toys are often collected for local good causes.

More recently, Elite League side Manchester Storm held a similar event, collecting over 600 cuddly toys for a nearby hospital.

Miss Middleton added: “I am really looking forward to seeing our generous fans do what they can to make this a success.

“The toys need to be brand new, so we can donate them.. It would be great if every fan brought a teddy bear along to the game.”
