Tigers NIHL set to match Whitley in home league opener

Jason Parry believes his Tigers NIHL side has the firepower to match Whitley Warriors during Saturday’s home debut in the Moralee Conference.

The county men take on Whitley in their first league encounter at Telford Ice Rink, following last year’s promotion from the Laidler Conference.

The Warriors have been hailed as pre-season favourites for the NIHL title, after signing former GB star David Longstaff, and Canadian Andre Payette.

But Parry is expecting an even fight for honours on Saturday evening.

He said: “If you look at each team, we’ve both got some very good young players, as well as some experienced guys to guide them.

“Our youngsters are very talented, and some are on two-way contracts with the EPL side. They are gaining some good experience from that.

“Like every team in this league, apart from Sheffield and Solihull, Whitley will be something new for us. From what I’ve read, they have some very promising players.”

Parry, who masterminded pre-season victories over Deeside Dragons and Solihull, is still likely to make changes to the make-up of his squad, ahead of Saturday’s game.

He added: “We have done some tweaking and there will be some changes along the way. The guys are still settling in and getting used to playing with each other.

“You are always looking to improve. Tom Watkins has been working with the players on some new things in training.  We should start seeing the benefits of that.”

Saturday’s game against Whitley Warriors, at Telford Ice Rink, faces off at 5.30pm.
