Tigers NIHL in three-way battle for third place

The Tigers NIHL take on Sheffield Spartans and Solihull Barons this weekend, in a series of games that could help shape the rest of their Moralee Conference season.

All three teams are within two points of each other in a mini-battle for third place, albeit with Sheffield – in fifth – having played two games more.

Saturday sees the Spartans make the trip to Telford Ice Rink, while on Sunday, The Tigers travel to Solihull for the latest encounter between the two local rivals.

Parry believes the visit of Sheffield could be very different to their previous meeting two weeks ago – a game Telford lost 6-2.

He said: “We’ll definitely be looking for a win, to keep up our unbeaten home record. We played up there a few weeks ago, but their netminder played well and we had a few guys missing.

“This weekend we’ll have a full squad to choose from, so the target is very much a win. They‘ve lost a few games recently, so it is a big weekend for us to get the points at home and in Solihull on Sunday.”

The trip to Hobs Moat Road is the first in a two-game series between the two sides, with the return taking place in Telford on November 8th.

The Tigers NIHL chief is expecting a tough night after they beat the Barons, in Solihull, during pre-season.

He added: “Solihull had a few guys missing last time and they’ve now come back into their squad, so we’ll just concentrate on our own game. It won’t be easy, put it that way.

“They had quite a slow start to the season, but have picked up well recently, beating Sheffield to go above us in the table last weekend.

“Hobs Moat Road is never an easy place to go to. It’s always been a big rivalry, especially with us playing them again at home the week after.”

Saturday’s game against Sheffield Spartans, at Telford Ice Rink, faces off at 5.30pm.
