Tigers launch 2016 hockey camps
Telford Tigers will offer young fans the chance to skate with top players from the EPL at this year’s Easter and summer training camps.
The club is holding a four-day long camp from April 5th to 8th, while in the summer, there will be a camp from August 15th to 19th.
Training sessions will be attended by players from his season’s Tigers EPL squad, with a focus on fundamental skills, speed, agility, skating and puck handling.
Tom Watkins, Head coach of Telford Tigers, GB Under-20s head coach and GB assistant coach, said: “Having senior players from the club involved in the camps is a great way of ensuring quality coaching from very skilled individuals.
“The camps are structured in such a way that students receive the very best tuition in all areas of the game. This is a crucial stage of any young player’s career.
“The camp already has a good reputation for skills and fitness, which has been built up over the last few years. I want that reputation to continue growing.â€
The Easter camp will cost £90 per child, which will include 90 minutes of ice time per day, starting at 6.15am. There will also be off-ice conditioning and classroom tuition.
The summer camp, meanwhile, will feature two and a half hours of ice time per day. Again, there will be off-ice conditioning and classroom tuition.
The cost of the summer camp will be £225, or £200 for siblings and Telford junior players.
Mr Watkins added: “When I was growing up, ice hockey camps in Durham were the highlight of the year for me. I want to re-create that feeling in Telford.
“We are designing this year’s camps to make sure that every student works hard, but also enjoys their time. Enjoying ice hockey is fundamental for any young player.
“These camps are also about building team spirit and making youngsters appreciate the importance of working within a close-knit squad.â€
