Tigers Boss Calls On Career Experience
Telford Tigers coach Tom Watkins will use the experience gained during ten years at Elite League winners Coventry as he looks to guide his side to a first EPL play-off place.
A glittering playing career saw Watkins win four EIHL titles and a string of play-off competitions throughout his decade in the top flight.
He took the reigns at Telford three seasons ago, with Red Hockey having provided substantial funds for new players since buying the club in October.
The county men are now looking a good bet to claim a spot in the EPL’s top eight, and become the first Shropshire side to do so since the 1990s.
Watkins said: “We are in a slightly different situation to when I was at Coventry, as we are playing from the bottom up, instead of being always near the top.
“But the big thing is that we are having fun. If you can do that and keep your confidence, then you will be okay.
“I look to Paul Thompson, who was my coach at Coventry as a mentor, and see how he did it. It is not necessarily always the same approach and sometimes what I do will be different.
“But there is a lot of experience that I have had in the past that will be applicable this season.â€Â
