Tigers Blank Sharks
After a steady start to the game the Sharks fell behind on the twelve minute mark when Dale White and Matthew Price combined to create the space for Jason Silverthorn (12:00) to score with a sublime finish. The home side regrouped to keep the rampant Tigers at bay and were perhaps looking forward to the calm of the dressing room when the visitors struck with speed and precision for a second time. On this occasion ex-Shark Kim Miettinen and Warren Tait were the players to provide the ammunition for Jack Watkins (19:09) to score the goal.
In the second session Solway raised their game and, while they kept the back door firmly closed, they were able to create some scoring chances of their own. Most notable of these was a goalmouth scramble in the middle of the period where netminder Denis Bell made a tremendous glove save and two pad blocks with a few seconds of each other. In the end neither team troubled the scorers and the second interval arrived with the visitors still leading two-nil.
The Sharks took to the ice for the final session with renewed belief that they could cause problems for the Telford defence while keeping their own back door closed and perhaps a revival might be on the cards. Unfortunately the Tigers won possession from the opening face-off and Corey Goodison and Joe Miller immediately sent the ever-dangerous Jason Silverthorn (40:22) through on goal to score with ease. For the remainder of the match Solway tried to get a foothold in the game but their self belief was gone and Telford played a professional game which allowed little room for further hope.
Man of the Match for the Tigers went to netminder Denis Bell while Marek Charvat picked up that honour for the Sharks.
