This Week: 30th December

The Christmas week has been as hectic as always but has also hit controversial heights.

Kelsey Wilson Ban – Elite League bans had been getting clearer since Simon Kirkham took over as head of discipline. Many decision have been made and whilst not every one has agreed with them most people have been able to see where Kirkham was coming from. However for the following footage taken from the Panthers match against Sheffield on Thursday Wilson was awarded a 3 game ban.

Perhaps Kirkham needs to lay off the sherry this New Year.

Goals Goals Goals – Thursday night saw 7 games across the EIHL and EPL. In total there were 59 goals across the games. That included 13 in Sheffield and 12 in Manchester as well as 2 games that finished 6 – 3, a 6-2 finish and a 4 – 3 overtime decision. The final game was a 1 – 0 in Hull.

Nottingham Panthers – After beating league title rivals Belfast, Coventry and Sheffield in their two previous games the last thing people predicted was a rout by the Sheffield. Thursday reversal of the Boxing night classic saw the Panthers go to piece. After a tight start to the game in which the score was tied at 1 with 15 minutes played the Panthers could not keep up as the game opened up. The Panthers went on to concede 9 goals. However the sign of a good team is in how they respond to such defeats. After putting 7 past Fife and 8 past Coventry the Panthers showed why they are now the favourites to lift the Elite League title for the first time. An 8 – 1 drumming of the Dundee Stars may not have totally satisfied the NIC faithful but it couldn’t have helped.
