Team GB’s Giants Cannot Stop Fantastic Italy

Great Britain lost their third game at the World Championship (Division 1A) as they went down 5-1 to top seeds Italy.

Italy took the lead after only 61 seconds when Nathan Casmirro pounced to a loose puck after Stephen Murphy had stopped the first shot. Robert Farmer, winning his 14th cap, scored his first senior goal with a blast from the right circle (7:23). GB created chances in the first period but were on the back foot in the second session as Italy piled on the pressure.

Patrick Iannone’s powerplay one-timer put Italy in front again at 21:15. Some heroic defending and fantastic saves from Murphy kept the scoreline at 2-1 at the second break. Vincent Rocco scored a terrific wraparound shooting top shelf at 42:40 and Markus Gander netted 23 seconds later to make it 4-1. Daniel Sullivan scored shorthanded on the rebound after a two on one break (48:15) for a 5-1 Italy lead. GB made a switch in nets for the last five minutes as Ben Bowns replaced Murphy.
