Team GB: Coventry-based firms team up to support GB
The Skydome Arena will play host to Great Britain’s ice hockey team next month ahead of the World Championship in Lithuania and two Coventry-based firms have signed up to show their support.
Team GB will go head-to-head with Netherlands in Coventry on Sunday 13th April (5:15pm) in what will be one of the most prestigious matches held at the venue.
The fixture, the second of a two-game international series, promises to be a close-fought encounter with both teams then meeting in the same World Championship group later in the month.
HBT Communications, based at Foleshill Enterprise Park, joins as the primary shirt and match sponsor for the event and are joined by Coventry Sports Foundation, who will also have branding on the team’s commemorative jerseys.
Netherlands-based company Syx Automations have also signed up to be part of the international series.
Zamurad Hussain, of HBT Communications, who provide telecommunications and IT services, said: “We are extremely proud to be supporting the GB men’s ice hockey team as they prepare for the World Championship.
“It promises to be a great game, particularly as they are so close in the world rankings. Hopefully Team GB, which ranks slightly higher in the table, will be able to show what they are made of and secure a win on home ice.â€
Coventry Sports Foundation is a charitable trust which aims to provide affordable access to quality sports and leisure facilities at three state-of-the-art leisure centres across the city – the Alan Higgs Centre on Allard Way, Centre AT7 in Bell Green Road and the Xcel Leisure Centre on Mitchell Avenue.
Paul Breed, chief executive at Coventry Sports Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Team GB ice hockey team as they go head-to-head with close rivals Netherlands.
“It is a great event to be a part of as we continue to highlight the great variety of sports available for people to get involved in.
“The draft Coventry Sports Strategy 2014-2024, which is currently out for consultation, firmly sets an objective of drawing high-profile events into the city. This event provides a great example of meeting this vision objective.
“The Skydome offers fantastic opportunities for budding sportsmen and women and with Team GB continuing to build on the fantastic achievements of the 2012 Olympics and more recently Sochi 2014, we can’t wait to see what the ice hockey team has to offer.â€

“We’re delighted to welcome HBT Communications, Syx Automations and Coventry Sports Foundation as official partners of the Great Britain team for the visit of Netherlands,†said GB general manager Andy Buxton.
“It’s fantastic to be able to play international games on home ice and it’s through the support of such partnerships that we are able to make them happen.
“We thank them for their support and look forward to welcoming them to the game in Coventry in April.â€
