Taylor made up with Tigers NIHL chance
Youngster Adam Taylor believes the higher standard of the Moralee Conference will prove to be a stern test for The Tigers NIHL next season.
Taylor has agreed to play a key role in the NIHL side’s first year at the higher level, following their promotion from the Laidler Conference.
The 21-year-old forward will remain available for duty with the club’s English Premier League squad, alongside training sessions at both levels.
But with that first year in the Moralee Conference now his main target, Taylor is expecting a tough start to life with the NIHL squad.
He said: “I love to play ice hockey and I want to play for as long as possible, so it was a very easy decision to sign a new contract.
“It is going to be very different to playing EPL hockey, but since I last played that league, it has got a lot better. The standard is very high, so it won’t be easy for the guys.
“I am very excited to see what I can add to the team. Everyone knows they’re coming off a very good season.
“Every game will be tough, but I’m sure Tom is putting together a team that will be able to compete in the league.â€
The presence of Head Coach Tom Watkins, who steered Taylor through much of his junior career, was a major draw for the Telford-born player.
He added: “Tom is a great coach and has been one of my coaches for as long as I can remember. He knows how I play and where I need to improve to become a better player.â€
Last season’s double success with Telford’s EPL side will remain a high point of Taylor’s career so far – although they too face a tough fight to retain those titles.
“From what I have seen, the EPL is changing and all the teams are strengthening their sides,†he said.
“Winning the league and British Challenge Cup was a massive achievement for The Tigers, but everyone starts from zero again.
“Of course it will be hard to repeat the double, but the guys will definitely be up for the challenge. I am sure the aim is to surpass last year and go for the treble.â€
