Stateside Squirrel Makes Friends In Telford
Snap the Squirrel got a huge thumbs-up from the Shropshire public when he joined Roary the Tiger for a walkabout in Telford Shopping Centre.
The Red Touch Media mascot was swamped by scores of Tigers fans as the pair handed out free childrens’ tickets for tomorrow’s visit of Slough Jets (5.30pm).
His visit to Shropshire was in response to a long-standing Facebook appeal from Telford Tigers supporters, for him to travel from his base in Salt Lake City.
Wayne Scholes, CEO of Tigers owners Red Touch Media, was delighted with today’s turn-out.
He said: “Bringing Snap to Telford has been a great way of introducing the Tigers and its supporters to the global Red Touch Media family.
“It was really heartwarming to hear of so many supporters making effort to give Snap a great welcome. A lot of people already recognised Roary straight away, which shows how popular the club is now becoming.
“It is safe to say that Snap has made a lot of new friends – young and old.”
Amongst those new friends was three-year-old Emilia-Rose Hill, from Malinslee, in Telford. Her mother, Lucy Hill, said: “It was great to meet the characters and Emilia loved it. It is a lovely way of teaching the children what is happening in their community.
“I have watched ice hockey on the television before and I don’t think I will get any peace now until I take her to a Tigers game!”
