Stars TV Back On Board
ULTIMATE WINDOWS-sponsored Billingham Stars have made their first major ‘signing’ of the close season by securing the services of Pyro Media – better known to the fans as Billingham Stars TV – for the next two seasons, forming a partnership that will benefit the club, Pyro Media and the Billingham fans.
Since Pyro Media came on board just after Christmas, the Stars media output has become the envy of the League. The quality of the highlights has been commented on beyond the NIHL, and the post-match interviews have given the fans a unique insight into the games from the point of view of the coaches and players. Such was the positive response to Stars TV, the Pyro Media team (Matthew Donnachie and Chloe Thomas) was awarded the task of filming and producing the highlights package for the NIHL playoffs last weekend.
Stars’ General Manager Allen Flavell is delighted to have Pyro Media on board: “It’s my absolute pleasure to announce that Pyro Media have formed a partnership with Billingham Stars for at least a two-year period to our mutual benefit. We will be working with them to promote the Stars, predominantly the senior team but also the whole club in general. We can expect better highlights, more interviews, behind the scenes footage… whatever we think the fans want to see!”
We caught up with Matthew and Chloe to get their thoughts on their work so far and what the future holds for Stars TV:
Matthew: “Billingham Stars TV has been an really exciting project for Pyro Media. We started mid-way through the season in January and have gained over 110,000 views across our Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. It’s really great to see so many fans not just from the Billingham Stars, but also rival teams logging on and viewing our content.”
Chloe: “We’ve very recently just covered the NIHL Moralee and Laidler playoff weekend which was something we didn’t expect ourselves to be doing after a few months of filming the Stars, but our work was to the taste of the organisers and we were chosen to produce a highlights package. A lot of work and money has gone into the event, with us even purchasing all new equipment, cameras etc. which we will be using to produce Stars TV to an even better quality than it already is.”
Matthew: “Chloe has really been the hockey brains behind it all and originally suggested we should put ourselves forward to produce a TV channel for the Stars. I hadn’t witnessed a single ice hockey game until we filmed our first game which was against Widnes Wild in the Cup and it was brilliant – we’re both really big supporters and fans of the Stars and it’s great to be able to work as part of it.”
Chloe: “The whole point of Stars TV is to give the loyal and dedicated fans something extra. Not everyone can make it to games, not everyone catches everything that has happened in the game, not everyone knows whether that goal crossed the line – it’s good to know that we can help these situations by filming all of the home games. Recently having a comment from a new Stars fan who attended his first game with his wife after watching one of our highlights video was just great for us – we want to help the team grow and gain more fans over the next few years.”
Matthew: “We’ve been lucky that Allen Flavell has given us his time and support – and that has lead us to welcoming Allen as a partner of Pyro Media. From this we have secured at least another two years of Billingham Stars TV and we have a lot of exciting things in the pipeline for it!”
Chloe: “I think the appreciation shown by fans has been fantastic. We are really grateful for the continued support from the fans and for the kind comments that we have received. We’re very excited to be continuing the channel for the next few years to come.”
With additional coverage from NIHL Radio, the Stars and Pyro Media want to continue to lead the way in terms of unrivalled media coverage. All feedback, comments and ideas to improve the quality of the Stars media output is therefore very much appreciated.
