Spartans & Hawks Share the Spoils

Spartans were missing Scott Morris & Dave Pyatt but welcomed back Dan Taylor who along with some of our 18’s players stepping up gave us a full bench, but were without Coach Martin White whose Wife had gone into labour that morning.

The first period saw both teams cancelling one another out in what was an exciting, end to end game with both teams playing some nice hockey but neither of whom could get the puck beyond two disciplined defences & two in form netminders in Brandon Stones & Danny Brittle which saw the period end 0-0.

The second period continued pretty much as the first in that it was end to end with both teams having chances to score, Blackburn being the more creative & numerically having more but it was Spartans who arguably had the better opportunities, one of which was taken by James Maughan on 27.31, assisted Dougie Jordan & Alex Harding. Hawks were unlucky not to go into the final period on even terms after Myles Dacres pinged the piping after a superb pass from Chris Arnone, a lovely move that deserved a goal in all fairness but it wasn’t to be with Spartans leading Hawks 1-0.

It was still a very close game which became a little scrappy as both teams tried to stamp their authority on the game which saw both sides sit out penalties but it was Hawks who managed to gain the upper hand early on in the period but they could not break down a stubborn defence & as the period progressed Spartans started to look more comfortable on the puck looked like they might just hang on for what would have been a good victory but whilst on a power play we gifted Hawks an opportunity that was punished by Myles Dacres on 56.25. An awful pass across ice was intercepted by Dacres who took his one on one chance well with Brandon Stones to tie it up at 1-1. Spartans had a chance to snatch it but a good block by Chris Arnone thwarted them to see both teams claim a point each in what was an excellent game of hockey & although Spartans will be disappointed in how they conceded the goal they did, a draw was a fair result in the end. Jonathon Kirk was awarded Spartans Man of the Match whilst Danny Brittle bagged it for Hawks.

Final Score: Spartans 1 Blackburn Hawks 1
