Spartans Ease to Victory Over Metros

Sheffield Spartans returned to winning ways on Sunday, beating Trafford Metros 7-2 at Ice Sheffield with a decent performance against a below par Metros side who were fortunate not to come away with a far worse result.

The first period was played out at a slow pace and despite out shooting Metros 23-2 it was Spartans who went into the first period break behind after Trafford stole the lead on 4.37 but had only themselves to blame with the chances that fell their way.

It was all Spartans in the second period with Trafford offering very little if nothing which Spartans took advantage of to end the period 5-1 in front with goals from Alex Harding, Nick Manning, Will Barron, Nick Manning again & Ollie Barron with some sloppy defending being the biggest culprit on the last three scored but again, the Spartans could have been much further in front had they made the most of their 25 shots on goals as opposed to Metros 8 shots.

The final period was played at a higher tempo & Trafford started to battle but the game was put well beyond them when Scott Morris made it 6-1 but Metros continued battle with a more spirited performance & were rewarded for their efforts when Steve Elliott fired home to make it 6-2. Despite Trafford’s efforts Spartans were still in control of the game & missed several opportunities before Tom Wells made it 7-2 which in the end was the final score with Spartans claiming what in the end was a comfortable if not easy win that could have been by a higher margin, Spartans out shooting Metros 23 -4 in that final period.

Next weekend sees Spartans complete their fixtures with a home double header, starting with Blackburn Hawks on Saturday 23rd March followed by Solway Sharks on Sunday 24th March…both games face off at 7.30pm.
