Solway Sharks have signed goalie Jordan McLaughlin for the 2018/19 NIHL season.
Edinburgh-born McLaughlin, who turns 19 in December, played last season with Edinburgh Capitals in the Elite League. Signed by the Caps as backup, he became the starting goalie in late December as the Murrayfield club endured a torrid campaign.
Despite the team struggles, McLaughlin emerged with credit after stepping …into the number one role.
At the end of the season, McLaughlin represented Scotland in the Under 19 international against England in Sheffield, and backstopped them to a 5-4 overtime win – saving 19 of 23 shots.
Sharks coach Martin Grubb said: “I am excited to be able to bring a young goalie with the ability and experience of Jordan.
“He gained lots of valuable ice time in a difficult situation in Edinburgh last season but he did very well and proved he is a very good goalie.
“He is young and has a desire to improve and I really like that and I feel we will help make him better. He knows what it takes to play at the elite level and will be expected to give us a chance to win games every night he plays.”
Jordan McLaughlin will wear #88 between the pipes this season. He said: “Signing for Solway is a big change for me as I’ve only really ever played for Edinburgh, it’s a good challenge for me to show how good I can be and to improve to get better and progress.
“I’m excited for this new chapter in my career and can’t wait to get back into training. It’s a team and a league I’ve never played in before so I’m looking forward to it.
“My personal goals this season is just to keep improving. Getting a load of ice time with the Capitals last year was extremely valuable to me and taught me a lot.
“I’m looking to add to that experience and gain new experience playing in the NIHL, allowing me to become the best player I possibly can be so that I can get more chances at the Elite level and Solway is the perfect place for me to do that.
“My team goal is to win. That’s why every player plays the game, looking at the team Solway have I feel we can really make a challenge for the league this year, last year was a big transition for Solway playing against old EPL sides and I think this year the club can really make their mark on the league.”
