Slough Jets 2 – 5 Bracknell Bees

The Bracknell Bees made the short trip along the M4 to face their local rivals, the Slough Jets, in what had become an important four point game with the two sides tied on points in the league table.

The Bees welcomed back Matt Foord but were still without Tony Redmond and were also missing the suspended James Galazzi and Chris Wiggins.   Ben Paynter, Harvey Stead, Ivan Antonov and Ilya Antonov were also added to the Bees lineup.     The Jets new netminder Andrej Vasiljevic and Tom Annetts were starting the respective nets.

The game started at a fast pace and the sides exchanged early opportunities as the game swung from end to end.   The Bees came close to the opening goal with a wrap around effort from Lukas Smital but the Jets scrambled to keep the puck out.   Two quick tripping penalties against the Bees gave the Jets a 5 on 3 powerplay but the Bees killed it off effectively.   It was then the Bees who had a powerplay opportunity but despite creating a couple of good chances the Bees couldn’t convert.

The Bees were just starting to get a foothold in the game when with just over five minutes left in the period when after some good work by Lukas Smital Shaun Thompson finished well to break the deadlock and give the Bees the lead.   The Bees had the better chances but the possesion was about even up until the goal.   The Bees looked to kick on and upped the pressure.   Lewis Turner and Alan Lack tangled behind the net after the Jets had a chance close in and Tom Annetts covered the puck.   Gloves were dropped by the two youngsters with the Bees slightly edging the bout – JJ Pitchley was also assessed a 2+10 for checking from behind too.   With the dust settling the Bees pounced and doubled their lead through Matt Foord who finished in close.   The period ran out without further incident.

The second period started well for the Bees as the Jets gifted them an early powerplay but the Jets killed it well and then got themselves back into the game with two rapid fire goals, slightly against the run of play, with just over four minutes gone in the period.  First was a quick shot from Ales Padelek that found its way past Annetts in the Bees net and only eighteen seconds later they leveled the score when Kamil Tvrdek stuffed the puck in from close during a bit of a scramble in front of the Bees net.   The Jets tails were now up and they started to dominate possesion however the Bees didn’t let their heads drop and battled hard to re-take the initivative.   A couple of Jets penalties helped the Bees get back on top but they couldn’t find a way past the Jets netminder.   Chances were still coming thick and fast at both ends of the ice but the period ran out with the scoreline tied at two apiece.

Into the third period and all to play for with the scores tied and it was the Bees who started the brighter but the Jets were a little unlucky when Kamil Tvrdek rattled the pipework with a shot from distance.   This seemed to spur the Bees in action and Ollie Bronnimann tapped the puck away after good work from Lukas Smital to give the Bees the lead.   With Danny Rose sitting out a slashing penalty the Bees effectively sealed the win when Shaun Thompson finished off a rebound in close.   The Jets found themselves on a 5 on 3 powerplay half way through the final period with Matt Foord and Pavel Strycek in the bin.   The Bees though stayed strong and killed the advantage well despite pressure from the Jets.   The Bees soaked up the late pressure from the Jets and with under two minutes left the Jets removed their netminder for the extra skater but it proved to no avail as Scott Spearing was put through by Ollie Bronnimann to tap the puck into the empty net and seal the 2-5 win for the travelling Bees.

The Man of the Match awards went to Andrej Vasiljevic in the hone team Jets net and to Lukas Smital for the Bees.
