SIGNING: forward will make his Marc this season

Building Craftsmen Dumfries-sponsored Solway Sharks are pleased to welcome back Marc Fowley to the forward lines for the 2016/17 NIHL season.

Irvine-born Fowley, 26, enjoyed a career year in 15/16 with 16 goals and 45 points in 32 league and cup encounters.

The centreman played SNL and Northern League before playing for Fife Flyers in their inaugural Elite League campaign of 2011/12. Fowley made his first appearance as a Shark later that season, playing nine games in the ENL Division 2 championship winning side.

Two more seasons of Elite League hockey followed, with a total of 107 appearances for Edinburgh Capitals before he returned to the Dumfries Ice Bowl for the start of the 14/15 season.

Last year Fowley was the number one centre at the club, a role coach Martin Grubb hopes he will continue this season.

“Marc had a great season last year and ended up our top points scorer in all competitions so we were obviously happy to get him back,” said the Sharks’ coach.

“I like what we brings to our team as he is a very smart player who is an energy guy with a high compete level and he comes to play every night. He can play at both ends of the ice as well as special teams and he is someone who leads by example so it was easy for us to want to bring him back.

“I expect Marc to take his game up another level this season and I know he loves a challenge so he will again be working hard to get under opponents skin and help his team challenge.”

Marc Fowley will wear the #34 jersey once again for the BCD Solway Sharks when the NIHL season starts in September.
