SIGNING: blueline boost for Sharks as Wallace returns, McNicoll returns north

Building Craftsmen Dumfries sponsored Solway Sharks have added two pieces to their defensive lineup today with the signing of James Wallace and Adam McNicoll.

Still only 21, Wallace, originally from Paisley, started playing with North Ayr before joining Solway in 2012.  Wallace saw ice time with SNL and U20 where the schedule allowed but he was noticed by EIHL Edinburgh Capitals and was signed in the summer of 2014 to a long-term development contract.

Last season he had to leave Edinburgh and return home for family reasons, taking up a spot with the Sharks and icing in 18 league and cup games – scoring 5+10=15 in that time.

Now he has put pen to paper for another full season in Dumfries wearing the Sharks colours.

Martin Grubb said on the signing: “Wally came back half way through last year in difficult circumstances but his return was a big reason we solidified our backline and went on the run we did to make the playoffs.

“He is a guy who fits into our dressing room and is someone who wants to improve and help his team. He adds good size to our blue line and his EIHL experience with Edinburgh Capitals is something we want to use and expect him to lead by example this season.”

Joining Wallace on the Sharks blueline is a brand new addition to the Solway club in Adam McNicoll.

Turning 22 at the start of the new season, McNicoll hails from Dundee but has spent the last two and a half seasons in NIHL South with Invicta Dynamos.  NIHL South 1 is a very competitive league and McNicoll has scored 11+16=27 in 60 League games while picking up just 24 penalty minutes.

Sharks coach Martin Grubb had hoped to sign the player when he left Dundee a couple of years ago but is now delighted to have him in a Solway lineup.

“Adam is player I tried to sign before he signed in Invicta and with him coming home we now have the chance to bring him to the club. He is a defenceman who is very mobile and is good on the puck and can play at both ends of the ice and that will help our D core this year.

“He is someone who has a high compete level and wants to do well here and show the experience he has gained down south. We look forward to Adam pulling on a Sharks shirt and contributing to our team this year.”

James Wallace #28 and Adam McNicoll #20 will ice with BCD Solway Sharks in NIHL North 1 from this September.

Tomorrow we’ll add another returning player to the mix as we build towards opening night for 16/17.
