Sharks turn up the heat on Dragons
The BCD Solway Sharks moved to within touching distance of the Moralee Conference title with a comprehensive 13-2 victory over the Deeside Dragons at the Shark Tank on Saturday evening. The two points gained mean that Billingham would have to win Sunday’s contest by seven clear goals to attain a better head-to-head record and then win all their remaining fixtures while the Sharks would have to lose all theirs to deny Solway the title.
The Sharks came out of the blocks at full speed and took just sixty-three seconds to open the scoring when Daniel Abercrombie (01:03) converted Connor Henderson’s pass. A James Hutchinson(04:44 PP) slapshot from left point soon doubled the home sides advantage and that was to rise to a four goal margin by the first interval with further goals from Connor Henderson (08:30) and a solo effort from Struan Tonnar (11:24 pictured),
The second period saw the Sharks continue to dominate the short-handed Dragons and they were to run in a further four goals through Stevie Moore (24:53), Marc Fowley (27:25), Joe Coulter (35:50) and Daniel Abercrombie (36:01) to lead eight-nil at the second intermission.
A powerplay strike from Filip Supa (43:16 PP) showed that Deeside were still prepared to battle but Connor Henderson (47:36) soon restored the eight goal margin before two quick-fire strikes from James Hutchinson (52:12) and Kim Miettinen (52:43) extended the Sharks lead to ten. Supa (56:26 PP) gave the visiting supporters a second consolation goal but it was always going to be Solway’s night and Stuart Andrews (58:11) and Struan Tonnar (58:52) both found the net as the clock ran down to make the final score Sharks thirteen Dragons two.
The Man of the Match Awards were presented to Filip Supa for Deeside and to Stevie Moore for Solway.
