Sharks Hot for NIHL Title

solways sharks in action

The Solway Sharks have begun the 2021-22 NIHL division 1 season on fire, currently sitting first overall and just 4 points above the Whitney Warriors. The Sharks have played good, disciplined hockey to start the season.

The Sharks have dominated so far, going 13-1-1 in 15 games. Solway has scored 87 goals, while giving up 36 goals. There are 4 players who have mightily contributed to the Sharks success and they are as follows:

Goaltender Jordan McLaughlin has shown flashes of greatness during his time in Solway. The 6-foot-1 and 181-pound netminder  has played extremely well and has produced league leading numbers. 8 games played, a save% of .940, 25 goals against, and 3 shutouts.

Left-winger Peter Gapa has been nothing short of spectacular. The forward has exploded with production, scoring 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 9 games. The 5-foot-11 and 165- pounder has been an explosive offensive genius in his career,  night after night producing NHL quality chances while scoring highlight reel goals.

The Poprad, Slovakia native  has an impressive 2.41 points-per-game in his NIHL career. Gapa won an SNL championship in 2019-20 with the sharks.

Forward Ross Murray has brought his 2-way play to the ice and helped Solway to the top of the standings. The 5-foot-11 and 161-pounder has recorded 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points in 13 games, with 46 penalty minutes. The Dumfries native has been with the Sharks for 12 years, recording steady offensive numbers and not backing down from a fight. Murray is a 4-time NIHL 1 North Champion.

Defensemen Stuart Kerr has brought stability to Solway and has for years now.

An Offensive defensemen, he has been known to have a quality 200-foot game and relies on vocal instructions to communicate with his teammates and goaltender.

At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds he isn’t a big defensemen but he makes up for it by letting his play do the taking. In 14 games this season he has 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points. He can play a regular shift, and play both special teams.

Truth be told the Sharks success has been a team effort. However, these 4 stand out as the top players since the season started. With the Warriors only 4 points behind them Solway has to keep their foot on the gas pedal. They can only Rey on what they do and concentrate on their gameplay. We have a while to go in the season. But the Sharks are putting everyone on notice this season with their outstanding play.
