Sensational Blaze begin New Year with victory
Coventry Blaze produced a sensational road performance on New Year’s Day to defeat the Cardiff Devils 0-5 at the Viola Arena.
With a breakaway, Blaze man-of-the match Ross Venus gave the visitors an early lead (2.24) beating GB International Ben Bowns one-on-one following a feed from Matt Pohlkamp.
Venus’ second of the night then came at 25.57, shooting top corner with another assist going to the older Pohlkamp brother.
At 35.10 it was 0-3 as Andrew Johnston scored in his fourth consecutive game against the Devils, the strike also making it eight straight games with at least a point for the speedy Canadian.
On 53.13, the feisty Chris Pohlkamp got on the scoresheet, finishing well from unusual territory in the offensive zone, all but putting an end to the game as a contest.
With over five minutes left and in a desperate attempt to find a way past the exceptional C.J.Motte, Bowns was pulled from the Cardiff net allowing Charles Corcoran to end the scoring 0-5 at 54.49.
Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “We were arguably just as good last night, and we have been for some time now. It was good to see the guys get rewarded today as the last three games we have been very good and not been rewarded for it.”
