Sens shut-out Eagles

The 2J Design Sheffield Senators recorded their first shutout of the 2012/2013 season last Saturday in a 7-0 home victory against the Blackburn Eagles.

Despite being the league’s bottom team, Blackburn showed great determination and worked hard throughout to keep the Sens at bay.  The Eagles battled solidly and the Sens struggled to break them down in the early stages, the deadlock was finally broken after 15 minutes when Tom Humphries converted from a nice passing move from Steve Weeks and Nathan Britton.  The Sens scored again on the powerplay 2 minutes later as Kurtis Lowe slotted home from close range.

The Sens upped their work rate in the 2nd period and scored 5 unanswered goals, 3 coming on the powerplay.

In the 3rd period the Sens uncharacteristically sat back and failed to light the lamp again, however, the job had been completed succesfully and with two points in the bag they marched up to 2nd place in the NIHL2 North league standings.

Sens Stats: Jamie Lewis 1+1, Simon Manning 0+1, Tom Humphries 2+1, Martyn Gray 0+2, Stevie Weeks 0+2, Luke Smith 0+1, Andrew Chapman 0+2, Mike Mawer 1+0, Nathan Britton 1+2, Kurtis Lowe 1+1 and Cameron King 1+0.

Goaltenders: Sens – Jonny Tindall 0/23 (100%), Eagles Matt Phair 7/75 (90.6%)

MOM: Sens – Cam King, Eagles – Matt Phair

The Sens are in action again this Saturday on the road for a repeat of last weekend’s fixture, where the Eagles will be looking to cause an upset and stop the Sens going top of NIHL2 North.
