Sens look to shoot down Eagles…

This Sunday the 2J Design Sheffield Senators welcome the Blackburn Eagles to iceSheffield.

This weekends’ fixture marks the first encounter between the two teams in the 2012/2013 season.  Back in the Sens first year 2010/2011, the Eagles, or Raptors as they were then known, took all 4 victories.  Last season the Sens turned the tables and came back with 4 victories of their own.  This season the Eagles have had a tough start, failing to pick up a point in their opening 10 games.  They have scored only 12 goals and conceded 83, however, goaltender Nick Saxton has been a revelation posting a 90%+ save average on an average of some 77 shots against per game.  A few weeks ago in Solihull, he  faced 109 shots allowing only 9 goals!  The Sens will need to work hard to break down a goaltender in such form. Former Sheffield player and coach Greg Newton returns to the steel city to try and force an upset in Eagles colours.

The Sens are in confident mood after a  last weekends’ 4 pointer and are looking to continue their march towards the promotion places in NIHL2 North.

Last  Saturday the Sens showed great courage and spirit coming back from a 1-3 deficit to defeat a very dejected looking Deeside Dragons 5-4.  On Sunday the Sens really turned on the style and ran out emphatic winners in a 3-11 road victory away in Hull.  The second period was the highlight as the Sens bagged 7 unanswered goals with some great team play and clinical finishing.
