Salem sees success soon for Tigers

Tigers forward Nathan Salem is determined to turn around the “massive disappointment” of Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Basingstoke Bison.

The setback was Telford’s third successive home loss of the new season, despite enjoying the majority of possession against their chief EPL title rivals.

Salem was a key part of The Tigers’ championship success last season, bagging 37 points on a line that included Peter Szabo and Jason Silverthorn.

The 24-year-old believes his side can regain its scoring touch – and take advantage of some commanding performances.

He said: “It was a massive disappointment to lose on Sunday, especially after having about 49 shots on their goal. We came out 4-1 down, but should have scored about four or five.

“All credit to their netminder, though, he stood on his head throughout the game. Losing the first few games at home isn’t good, so things have got to change.”

Telford have, however, won twice on the road, beating Sheffield and Hull across successive weekends.

That success – coupled with dominant performances in both losses – has dented thoughts of a faltering campaign.

He added: “Expectations are about the same as last year, as the team hasn’t changed a lot. We are still going into games with a winning mentality.

“The league has changed quite a bit, as a few Elite League players have come to EPL sides. We’re only a few games into the season and we all know each other, so it will come good.”

Telford Tigers are back in action next weekend, when they travel to face Milton Keynes Lightning on Saturday, before the visit of Peterborough Phantoms on Sunday (6pm).
