Raiders silence Solent

London Raiders returned from the south coast with the National League points after a hard-fought win over Solent last night.

Edged out on home ice by the Isle of Wight on Saturday, Raiders travelled without Frankie Harvey to face the Devils, but had Rob Jenner back in their line-up.

And they killed off early penalties against Liam Chong, Marek Nahlik, Mason Webster and goalie Michael Gray, before Webster and Richard Facey were binned on co-incidental interference minors.

Raiders opened the scoring during the 4-on-4 through captain Tom Davis and doubled their lead just 15 seconds later as in-form Michal Oravec claimed his third goal of the weekend.

Solent hit back through Alex Murray a minute later, before Webster and Facey returned to the penalty box on roughing penalties.

And both sides were hit with more minor penalties throughout the rest of the match as the scoreline remained unchanged until the closing seconds.

Murray was binned for hooking with less than 90 seconds left on the clock and, after Solent withdrew goalie Christian Cole for an extra skater, Raiders skipper Davis found the empty net for his second goal of the night to seal the points for the visitors.

Gray took the man of the match award for his 44-save display between the pipes, having broken the club record for minutes played in league matches the night before.

Scorers, Solent: Murray 1 Hegyi* 0+1.

Raiders: Davis 2+1 Oravec* 1 Chittock 0+1 Oliver 0+1 Veares 0+1.

Penalty minutes: Solent 18 Raiders 20.

Shots faced: Cole (S, 59:30) 32-2 Gray (L) 45-1.
