Raiders held by Devils
Raiders had to settle for a point after a low-scoring contest with Solent at Lee Valley last night.
Having fallen to a 6-2 loss at MK Thunder a week earlier, Raiders took to the ice without Frankie Harvey and Stevie Dunnage against a Devils side beaten 5-4 at Oxford in their last outing.
Captain Tom Davis returned from his two-game suspension for the hosts and was in early trouble, picking up a holding minor.
But Raiders survived the shorthanded spell and were given a powerplay chance of their own when Ralfs Circenis was called for tripping.
The visitors held firm but wasted their second powerplay chance of the night when Davis was binned for cross-checking as the first period ended goalless.
Davis made his third trip to the penalty box early in the second period, for slashing, but Raiders killed it off and broke the deadlock soon after as Liam Chong set up Sam Roberts for his first goal for the club.
A hooking call against import Michal Oravec was successfully killed off before the break as Raiders retained their slender lead, despite being outshot 23-15 to that stage,
The gloves came off early in the final session when import Marek Nahlik clashed with Solent’s Mitchell Murray and both picked up double minors for fighting.
Rio Grinell-Parke and Alex Cole joined them in the box with roughing minors and Nahlik was sidelined again for boarding.
A cross-checking call against Robbie Veares then handed Solent a minute of 5-on-3 and they made it count to draw level through George Norcliffe, with 11 minutes left on the clock.
Neither side could find a winner in the time that remained, though, as Christian Cole held firm in Solent’s net to finish with 25 saves and their man of the match award.
Raiders goalscorer Roberts tweeted:
“Got my first goal for the @LonRaiders_IHC plenty of positives tonight onto tomorrow.â€
