Your Go Goodwins sponsored Manchester Storm finish their regular season at home this Sunday 25th March when local rivals the Sheffield Steelers visit the Storm Shelter in a 5:30 pm faceoff.

While the Storm have secured second place in the table, as well as the Patton Conference trophy, the Steelers can still finish the season anywhere between third to fifth. Both Belfast and Nottingham can still catch the Steelers and the third seeding in the playoffs. As well as the final playoff seedings still to play for, the league top goals and points scorer will get decided this Sunday. Mike Hammond is currently sitting atop of the points rankings, 5 ahead of John Dunbar in second. Luke Moffatt and Marc Olivier Vallerand are tied on 34 goals, 2 ahead of Mike Hammond and Brendan Brooks of the Braehead Clan.

The Steelers and Storm had contrasting fortune last night. The Steelers hosted the Edinburgh Capitals and came away 11-2 victors in a big night. Eric Neiley grabbed a hattrick, Ben O’Connor and Robert Dowd scored two each, while Andreas Valdix, Miika Franssila, Cole Shudra, and Levi Nelson got a goal apiece. Brad Day started the game in nets for the Steelers, who were missing Mathieu Roy and Andreas Jamtin. The Storm faced the Blaze in Altrincham in a game that ended 7-4 in favour of the visitors. Goals from Stanisz, Fleming, Pitt, and Trenz were not enough to defeat the Blaze. Declan Ryan made 31 saves in his first full game for the Storm.

In the three previous meetings between the sides, the Storm have managed 1 win and 1 shootout loss, with the Steelers getting 2 victories. The first league meeting saw the Steelers shutout the Storm 3-0 in the FlyDSA arena. This was followed by a 6-5 shootout victory for the Steelers at Planet Ice Altrincham on new year’s day. The last meeting ended 7-5 to the Storm in early-February. Top scoring for the Storm has been Luke Moffatt, who has 6 goals against the Steelers, adding 1 assist. Linemate Dane Byers has 1 goal and 6 assists. For the Steelers, both Mathieu Roy and Robert Dowd have picked up 5 points each, Jonas Westerling follows with 4 points. In nets, Mike Clemente has a 85.1% save percentage after making 74 saves over the 3 games. Ervins Mustukovs has 97 saves and a 89.0% save percentage.

Tonight’s game at the Storm Shelter is a SELLOUT, so please do not travel to the game if you don’t have a ticket already!

One to watch: Eric Neiley was a mid-season signing for the Steelers. After his hattrick last night, he has 7 points in his last 5 games.
