PREVIEW: Lightning v Basingstoke Bison (Wed 17 Feb 7.45pm)

A rare midweek game is on the cards this Wednesday (17 February) as the Milton Keynes Lightning welcome the fans, players and coaching staff of the Basingstoke Bison (face off at 7.45pm).

The two sides met just a few weeks ago when the Lightning travelled to Basingstoke. With just 25 minutes gone of the game, the Lightning trailed 3-0 to the home side. However, MKL battled back, and with a goal from Jordan Cownie and another from Grant McPherson. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and that was how the game ended.

MKL only had one game to worry about at the weekend and that was against the Swindon Wildcats at the MK Arena. With Head Coach Pete Russell away with the Team GB squad for the Olympic pre-qualifiers, it was left to assistant coach Lewis Clifford to take the reins. After a poor first period from the home team, the visitors had the edge with a 3-2 lead. In the second frame, however, a different Lightning team took to the ice, scoring a massive six goals to take the lead 8-3, with the final period ending 9-4 to MKL. With a goal each for Adam Carr, Frankie Bakrlik and Luc Johnson (coincidentally, his first goal in Lightning colours) and two goals for Bobby Chamberlain, and a huge four goals for man of the match Jordan Cownie, the Lightning earned themselves a well-deserved day off on Sunday.

Wednesday night will also see the return for Kids for a Quid. As it’s half term, bring along as many children as you like, and they’ll all get in for a pound each!

With the Bison currently sitting at the top of the league table, and with only a few weeks left of the season, the Lightning will need to do all they can to climb back within reach of the top spot and to get themselves in a good position ready for the playoffs at the end of next month.

Wednesday’s game will face off at 7.45pm at the Milton Keynes Arena. You can purchase your tickets prior to the game from the ticket office which is open daily 10am-9pm. Alternatively, you can buy online from www.mk-lightning.co.uk(away fans in Block 8). Rinkside seating opens at 7pm but the coffee shop and Tag Taylor Bar & Grill will be open earlier.
