Preseason Issues for The MK Lightning
Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance. That is just one of the slogans that coaches use to inspire a team in preseason and was something Milton Keynes Lightning would have been hoping to put into practice. Now however their entire preseason and possible their start of the EPL season is up in the air after a problem with the ice plant left the MK ice rink with a pool of water.
Planet Ice who operate the rink could not give a time frame for when the arena would be operational again but said that they were working on the problem and hope to have the problem solved as quickly as possible.
It is a blow to the Lightning who are 5 weeks away from a preseason match up with Telford and whose preseason training was just about to start.
Milton Keynes have been disappointed with their 2 league campaigns since winning the EPL title in 2010. Last season was particularly painful as the Berkshire side finished 5th in the league and missed out on the cup final and the playoff weekend. The Lightning were looking put those problems behind them by having a good preseason to prepare for the new season.
That preseason may not be too affected as Planet Ice have been using their network of ice rinks to accommodate skaters and ice hockey teams at rinks in Coventry and Peterborough.  But should the issue at the arena continue into the season a backlog of fixtures could mean for a hectic schedule for the Lightning and the EPL with Telford’s ice rink out of action until October.
