Playoff Winner Cheverie Ready For Title Charge

The Stena Line Belfast Giants switch their attention to playoff action as the Rapid Solicitors Elite League Playoffs begin this weekend. The Giants will face the Hull Stingrays in the Quarter Finals on Saturday on the road and in Belfast on Sunday with the winner advancing to the Finals the following weekend in Nottingham. Sunday’s game in Belfast, the final home game of the 2013/14 season, will face-off at 4pm and the Odyssey Arena will open at 2pm for a pre-game Q&A with General Manager Todd Kelman and special guests in McCools.

“These are the biggest games of the year,” said Giants forward Evan Cheverie. “Obviously we had a disappointing game in Nottingham but it’s time to lick our wounds, regroup and refocus. It’s going to be exciting.”

This weekends battles against Hull will be Cheverie’s third playoff series with the Giants and knows exactly what to expect when the puck drops in Hull at 6.30pm Saturday.

“Any playoff series i’ve ever been in hasn’t been easy so I don’t expect this to be easy. We’ll need to be ready mentally and physically.”

In 2010, Cheverie was part of the last Giants team to win a playoff championship, when he scored the winning penalty shot in the final against the Cardiff Devils in Nottingham and the forward will be using his playoff experience to help the Elite League champions this weekend,

“I remember every game (in 2010) was a battle with both games going into shootouts. It was a physical and mental battle and there was no shifts off and I expect this weekend to be the same – It doesn’t matter who you’re playing, it’s always tough.”

Great seats are still available for Sunday’s Playoff game at the Odyssey Arena and can be purchased and printed online at Ticketmaster or from the Odyssey Arena Box Office in person or by calling (028) 9073 9074.
