Phillips Wants To Prove GB Can Compete

Stena Line Belfast Giants defenceman Davey Phillips wants Great Britain to prove they can compete for promotion in Division 1B next season, by beating Poland in their final game on Saturday.

GB can still win a bronze medal if Saturday’s game is a regulation-time victory and Lithuania beat Croatia, also in regulation time.

Phillips said: “Saturday’s game is important for many reasons. We can still win a bronze medal and that will be a nice way to end the tournament. Granted, it is not the gold we wanted but we have to focus on the goal we can now achieve.

“By beating Poland, who are already promoted and a really strong side now, we can show the national program is in good shape.

“We can end the tournament with a positive vibe and this will be a great tonic ahead of next year.”

GB’s game with Poland on Saturday is at 2:30pm UK time, with Lithuania against Croatia starting at 6pm UK time.
