Parry points to pre-season test against Dragons
Jason Parry will welcome former Tigers EPL forward Owen Bennett back to Shropshire on Saturday, when the club’s NIHL side takes on Deeside Dragons (6pm).
The county men return to action in a pre-season challenge game against their Red Hockey colleagues, ahead of tough year in the Moralee Conference.
Saturday’s encounter is part of a three-game, pre-season schedule for The Tigers NIHL, who also play Deeside and Solihull Barons away at the start of next month.
Bennett made a late summer switch to Flintshire, following his EPL title success last season – and Parry is looking forward to facing his former club mate.
The NIHL assistant coach said: “It will definitely be interesting to play Deeside. They’ve got a couple of good imports, and they both look like very good players. Of course, they will have Owen in their team as well.
“It will be nice to see him back here. I’ve known him a long time, and he was offered a place with our NIHL team, but decided to go to Deeside.
“On saying that, I hope it goes really well for him with The Dragons. He is a great lad.â€
This season’s NIHL side has taken on a new look, with both Adam Taylor and Callum Bowley joining from The Tigers EPL squad.
Parry, who will again work alongside head coach Tom Watkins, expects his side to reap the rewards of a lengthy summer training programme.
He added: “The guys have got together quite regularly and a few of them have been training with the EPL camp. Saturday will be a good chance to see what lines work together.
“We take every game seriously and it is all about getting into that winning habit. We want to get the new guys up to speed on how we play.â€
